Most people think they only need sunscreen when it’s summertime and they are going to be exposed to the sun for long periods of time. Truth is, it’s really important to wear sunscreen daily, regardless of the weather.

Ultraviolet rays are always present so even when it’s cloudy or raining you’re still being exposed. UV rays are the main cause of sun damage, aging, and skin cancer, but this is where sunscreen comes in and saves the day!

Sunscreen blocks these rays and helps protect your skin from the harsh effects caused by the sun. Broad-spectrum should be your go-to because it blocks both UVA and UVB rays (this protects your skin from aging and burning!) I always recommend using at least 30 SPF.

Because most people think sunscreen only protects you from burning, those with a darker complexion are less likely to apply, but as you now know, this is not the case! Years of sun damage can cause aging, wrinkles, saggy skin, and sunspots. It is said that 90% of aging actually comes from sun exposure, so the sooner you start wearing SPF, the better.

Bottom line:

  • Think of sunscreen as a shield that locks in your other products and protects your skin from the harsh outside world
  • UV rays increase your chances of getting skin cancer and signs of early aging because you are exposed to them daily
  • You should make it a habit to apply sunscreen every morning
  • UV rays can penetrate through glass, so even if you’re driving or sitting indoors, you should still apply SPF
  • Don’t neglect your neck and hands
