Microneedling with PRP: The All-Natural Treatment for More Youthful Skin
Microneedling is known for opening the pores and creating micro-injuries to kickstart healing, which makes it the perfect companion to PRP therapy, which also boosts your body’s healing process.

Aging doesn’t have a single solution, and relying solely on one remedy can put you at a disadvantage as the years go on. A multi-pronged approach that combines treatments can markedly improve the efficacy of your overall beauty routine. For example, microneedling is an effective skin treatment on its own, but adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can boost it even further.

At Regenerative MedSpa of Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia, our team of body wellness and anti-aging specialists performs microneedling plus PRP treatment to rejuvenate your skin and roll back the ravages of time and sun damage.

Microneedling vs. PRP therapy

You’ve likely heard about these two treatments separately. They both stimulate production of supportive collagen and elastin, but what makes them different, and how can combining them improve your results?

Microneedling

Dry, damaged skin is difficult to rejuvenate. Moisturizers and creams sit on top, barely seeping through the upper layers, so topical solutions can only do so much. Minimally invasive treatments like dermabrasion and chemical peels go deeper, exposing the fresh skin underneath, but they can force an overly rapid cellular turnover and leave your skin red and rough.

Instead of coating your face in cream or stripping off the upper layers of skin, microneedling creates small punctures into multiple layers of skin, called micro-injuries. Your body increases protein production to heal these, manufacturing extra collagen and elastin to support and rejuvenate your skin.

PRP therapy

Normally, platelets arrive naturally to the site of an  injury, but PRP therapy allows doctors to deliver this powerful growth factor-loaded serum directly.  Platelet-rich plasma is used medically and cosmetically.

The secret to PRP therapy’s efficacy is that it’s synthesized from your own blood. Your immune system recognizes the cells as your own, and begins using them immediately. Targeted injections can reduce joint pain, heal injuries, promote hair growth, and improve skin quality.

Combining the two

Your skin needs to recover following a microneedling session, and what better way to promote rejuvenation than PRP therapy? The almost invisible punctures left behind by the tiny hair-thin needles provide entry points for the platelets, allowing them to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin and speed up this healing process.

Known informally as a vampire or PRP facial, this treatment is much the same as normal microneedling. We roll a small device lined with sterile needles over your skin, and then cover these micro-injuries with healing PRP.

This dual process reduces your recovery time and helps your skin look fresher for longer. With routine treatment and sun protection, you can maintain these results and slow down aging for years to come.
