If you love your skin, it's time to break up and say goodbye to these bad skincare habits!

1. Not Removing Your Makeup at Night

Going to bed with your makeup on is easily one of the biggest no-nos in skincare. Sleep plays a major role in your cell turnover process so, you must have a clean slate for your cells to work with! Overnight, new cells make their way to the surface so, if you have leftover makeup and buildup from the day, those cells are going to slow down, resulting in dull skin and clogged pores.

2. Skipping Sunscreen

Sunscreen needs to be applied daily regardless of the weather or skin tone. By not protecting your skin you are continually exposing it to harsh UV rays that will increase signs of aging, sun damage, burning, and even cancers. It is so much easier to prevent these problems by wearing sunscreen EVERY DAY instead of correcting them later down the road.

3. Picking at Your Popups

Yes, it’s tempting but, there are so many reasons you shouldn’t be picking at your pimples. Here are just a few examples; spreading the bacteria and causing more breakouts, potential scarring, not letting your skin heal properly, and tearing the skin. Try using a spot gel or icing the area instead!

4. Over-Exfoliating

Exfoliating is a great step to include in your skincare routine to maintain hydrated skin and unclogged pores but, over-exfoliating can cause more harm than good. Over-exfoliated skin can be dry, red, itchy, and irritated, but sometimes it can cause an overproduction of oil due to severe dryness. How often you should exfoliate will vary from person to person depending on skin type, but generally, you shouldn’t be exfoliating more than twice a week.

5. Forgetting to Wash Your Makeup Brushes

Our makeup brushes hold oil, dirt, dead skin, and tiny bacteria that lead to nasty breakouts or infections. Washing your brushes regularly and throwing away disposable sponges and expired makeup will help prevent this from happening! Aim for twice a month but sponges need to be washed after every use.

6. Not Taking Care of Your Neck, Chest, and Hands

The skin on our neck, chest, and hands is super delicate and will be among the first places that show signs of aging, which makes it unfortunate that most people neglect these areas! Next time you're doing your routine, remember to add a little moisturizer and SPF, you won't regret it!
